# How to Use an Existing Bundle URL for a New Mix & Match Bundle

Sometimes, you may recreate a Mix & Match Bundle but want the new bundle to continue using an existing Bundle URL.

For example:

**Existing Bundle URL**

`https://your-store.com/products/existing-bundle`

**New Bundle URL**

`https://your-store.com/products/new-bundle`

There are two ways to handle this:

1. Make the new Bundle Product use the existing URL handle.
2. Keep the new URL and redirect the existing URL to the new Bundle Product.

---

## Before You Begin

Record the following information:

* The existing Bundle URL
* The new Bundle URL
* The Shopify store that owns each URL

If you manage multiple Shopify stores, check the domain carefully and make sure you are logged in to the correct Shopify Admin.

|| Bundles and products from one Shopify store will not appear in the uShopAid app or Shopify Admin of another store.

## Why Can’t I Find the Existing Bundle in uShopAid?

An existing Bundle URL might still work even if the bundle is no longer listed in uShopAid.

This can happen when:

* The bundle was removed from uShopAid, but its Shopify Product still exists
* The product was created manually
* The product was created by another app
* The merchant is checking the wrong Shopify store
* The product title is different from its URL handle

For example, the product title might be:

`Build Your Own Bundle`

while its URL handle is:

`existing-bundle`

Searching for `existing-bundle` on the Shopify Products page might not find the product because Shopify search results are usually based on the product title.

|| If the existing bundle is not listed in uShopAid, search for its corresponding product in Shopify Admin. The uShopAid bundle record might have been removed while the Shopify Product still exists.

---

## Method 1: Use the Existing URL Handle for the New Bundle Product

Choose this method if you want the new Bundle Product to completely replace the old one.

After the change, existing navigation menus, advertisements, emails, and external links using the old URL can open the new Bundle Product directly.

## Step 1: Confirm That the New Bundle Works Correctly

Open the new Bundle Product page and confirm that:

* The Mix & Match Bundle is displayed
* Customers can select products
* The bundle discount is calculated correctly
* The completed bundle can be added to the cart

Only continue after confirming that the new Bundle works correctly.

## Step 2: Identify the Shopify Store That Owns the Existing URL

Check the domain in the existing Bundle URL.

Then log in to the Shopify Admin connected to that domain.

If you manage multiple stores, confirm that the store name and domain in Shopify Admin match the existing Bundle URL.

||| A product using the existing handle might not appear if you are logged in to a different Shopify store.

## Step 3: Find the Product Using the Existing URL Handle

First, try to find the existing bundle in the uShopAid **Bundles** list.

If it is not listed, go to **Shopify Admin → Products**.

Search for the product title displayed on the existing storefront page. Do not rely only on the URL handle.

If multiple products have the same or similar titles:

1. Open each possible product.
2. Scroll to **Search engine listing**.
3. Check the **URL handle**.
4. Find the product using the existing handle.

For example, find the product using:

`existing-bundle`

|| Multiple products can have the same title while using different URL handles. Always confirm the handle under Search engine listing.

## Step 4: Release the Existing URL Handle

Two products in the same Shopify store cannot use the same URL handle.

If another product still uses:

`existing-bundle`

Shopify will display:

`Handle is already in use`

We recommend changing the old product’s handle to a backup handle, such as:

`existing-bundle-archived`

This preserves the old product while releasing the handle.

||| Setting the old product to **Draft** does not release its URL handle. Even when the product is no longer publicly available, the handle remains assigned to it.

If you are certain that the old product is no longer needed, you can delete it instead. Confirm that the new Bundle works correctly before deleting any product.

## Step 5: Open the New Bundle Product Editor

Return to the uShopAid **Bundles** page.

Find the new Mix & Match Bundle and click the **Edit URL** icon under **Action**.

Shopify will open the product editing page for the Bundle Product created by uShopAid.

|| The **Edit URL** option is available when the Mix & Match Bundle was created as a Shopify product.

## Step 6: Change the New Bundle Product’s URL Handle

On the Shopify product editing page, scroll to **Search engine listing**.

Edit the **URL handle**.

![Edit the URL handle under Search engine listing](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/4/d/f/1/4df10d1472327800/image_1njvj4b.png)

For example, change:

`new-bundle`

to:

`existing-bundle`

Only change the text after `products/`.

Do not enter:

* The store domain
* `https://`
* `/products/`
* The complete product URL

Click **Save**.

The new Bundle Product will now use:

`https://your-store.com/products/existing-bundle`

If Shopify still displays **Handle is already in use**, another product in the same store is still using that handle.

## Step 7: Test the Existing Bundle URL

Open the existing Bundle URL in a new browser window and confirm that:

* The page displays the new Mix & Match Bundle
* Customers can select products
* The bundle discount is correct
* The completed bundle can be added to the cart

We recommend testing on both desktop and mobile devices.

## What Happens to the New Bundle’s Previous URL?

After changing the new Bundle Product’s handle, its previous URL is no longer the primary product URL.

Shopify might offer an option to create a URL redirect when the handle is changed.

Keep this option enabled if you also want visitors using the new Bundle’s previous URL to reach the updated page.

---

## Method 2: Redirect the Existing URL to the New Bundle URL

Choose this method if you want the new Bundle Product to keep its current URL.

For example:

**Redirect from**

`https://your-store.com/products/existing-bundle`

**Redirect to**

`https://your-store.com/products/new-bundle`

This method is useful when:

* The new Bundle should keep its current URL
* The existing URL has already been shared
* External websites still link to the existing URL
* The old Bundle Product is no longer needed

## Important Requirement for Shopify URL Redirects

Shopify URL redirects only work when the original URL is unavailable and returns a 404 page.

If the existing URL still displays a valid product page, Shopify will not apply the redirect.

Before creating the redirect, make the old URL unavailable by doing one of the following:

* Set the old product to **Draft**
* Remove the old product from the **Online Store** sales channel
* Change the old product’s URL handle
* Delete the old product

|| For a URL redirect, setting the old product to Draft can be sufficient because its storefront URL becomes unavailable. However, Draft status does not release the handle for another product to use.

## Step 1: Open Shopify URL Redirects

From Shopify Admin, go to:

**Content → Menus**

Click **View URL Redirects**, and then click **Create URL redirect**.

![Open the URL redirect form in Shopify Admin](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/4/d/f/1/4df10d1472327800/image_2qjukk.png)

## Step 2: Enter the Existing URL Path

In **Redirect from**, enter the path of the existing Bundle URL.

For example:

`/products/existing-bundle`

Enter only the path after the store domain.

Do not enter:

`https://your-store.com/products/existing-bundle`

## Step 3: Enter the New Bundle URL Path

In **Redirect to**, enter the path of the new Bundle Product.

For example:

`/products/new-bundle`

For a redirect within the same Shopify store, using a relative path is recommended.

If the destination is on another domain or another Shopify store, enter the complete destination URL.

## Step 4: Save the Redirect

The completed redirect should look like this:

**Redirect from**

`/products/existing-bundle`

**Redirect to**

`/products/new-bundle`

Click **Save redirect**.

## Step 5: Test the Redirect

Open:

`https://your-store.com/products/existing-bundle`

Your browser should automatically open:

`https://your-store.com/products/new-bundle`

Confirm that:

* The browser reaches the correct new URL
* The new Mix & Match Bundle is displayed
* Product selection works
* The bundle discount is correct
* The completed bundle can be added to the cart

---

## Why Is the URL Redirect Not Working?

If the redirect does not work, check the following.

### The Existing URL Still Opens a Valid Page

Shopify does not apply URL redirects to URLs that still display active content.

Make the existing URL unavailable by setting the product to Draft, removing it from the Online Store sales channel, changing its handle, or deleting it.

### The Redirect Was Created in the Wrong Shopify Store

If you manage multiple Shopify stores, create the redirect in the Shopify Admin connected to the existing URL’s domain.

A redirect created in one Shopify store does not automatically apply to another independent store.

### The Redirect From Path Is Incorrect

Use this format:

`/products/existing-bundle`

Make sure that:

* The path begins with `/`
* The store domain is not included
* The handle is spelled correctly

### The Redirect To Path Is Incorrect

For a Bundle Product in the same store, use:

`/products/new-bundle`

If the new Bundle belongs to another store or domain, enter its complete URL instead.

### The Store Uses Market or Language Subfolders

The storefront URL might contain a market or language subfolder, such as:

* `/en`
* `/en-ca`
* `/fr`

A relative URL redirect generally applies to the corresponding market or language paths. If different markets need different destinations, configure the appropriate redirects for each path.

### The Browser Has Cached the Redirect

Permanent redirects can be cached by browsers and search engines.

If the result does not appear correct, test again using:

* A private or incognito window
* Another browser
* Another device

---

## Which Method Should You Use?

### Use the Existing Handle on the New Bundle Product When:

* The new Bundle should completely replace the old Bundle
* You want the new Bundle to use the existing URL directly
* Existing menus and external links should continue working without changes
* The old product no longer needs the handle

### Create a Shopify URL Redirect When:

* The new Bundle should keep its current URL
* You only need existing links to continue working
* The old Bundle URL is no longer active
* Visitors should automatically be forwarded to the new Bundle page

## Still Need Help?

If you cannot find the product using the existing handle, first confirm that you are logged in to the correct Shopify store.

If the product is not listed in uShopAid, search for it under **Shopify Admin → Products**. The uShopAid bundle might have been removed while its Shopify Product still exists.

If Shopify continues to display **Handle is already in use**, please contact the uShopAid support team and provide:

* The existing Bundle URL
* The new Bundle URL
* The Shopify store domain
* A screenshot of the URL handle under **Search engine listing**

Our team will help you identify the correct product and URL configuration.
