Why Do Identical Products Appear on Separate Lines or Show Slightly Different Prices in a Mix & Match Bundle?

When customers click the + button to increase a product’s quantity in a Mix & Match Bundle, identical products may be displayed in two different ways in the Summary panel:

  • The quantity increases within the existing product line, for example from 1 to 2.
  • The same product appears on a separate line, with each line showing a quantity of 1.

You may also notice that the two identical product lines display slightly different prices, such as €7.07 and €7.08.

These two behaviors are connected. They are normally caused by how the bundle discount is distributed and rounded across the selected products—not by the customer adding the product incorrectly.

Why Does the Same Product Sometimes Appear on Separate Lines?

When a customer clicks the + button, the additional unit is still the same product.

However, when Show discounted bundle price is selected, the system must distribute the total bundle discount across all selected items.

Because product prices are displayed with two decimal places, identical units may receive slightly different allocated discounted prices.

For example:

  • First item: €7.07
  • Second identical item: €7.08

Product units with the same allocated discounted price can be combined into one product line and displayed with a higher quantity.

Product units with different allocated discounted prices cannot be combined into the same product line. Therefore, the same product may appear on two separate lines, each with a quantity of 1.

The customer did not select two different products. The separate lines can appear even when the customer only uses the + button. The final bundle discount and total remain correct.

Why Can Identical Products Differ by €0.01?

Shopify prices are displayed with two decimal places.

When a percentage discount cannot be divided evenly across all selected products, the system must round the discounted price allocated to each item. One or more items may therefore differ by €0.01 so that the final discount and total remain accurate.

For example:

  • Original product total: €29.80
  • Bundle discount: 5%
  • Discount amount: €1.49
  • Final bundle total: €28.31

The €1.49 discount cannot always be distributed evenly across every product while keeping each item price to two decimal places.

As a result, identical products may display slightly different allocated prices, such as €7.07 and €7.08.

A difference of €0.01 is normally caused by discount allocation and rounding. It does not mean that the bundle discount was calculated incorrectly.

Is This Caused by an Incorrect Bundle Setting?

No. This is normally not an incorrect bundle setting or an issue with the + button.

The behavior can occur when:

  • The Mix & Match Bundle uses a discount that must be distributed across multiple items.
  • Show discounted bundle price is selected under the Summary panel’s Product price setting.
  • The allocated discounted prices cannot all be rounded to the same amount.

The actual bundle discount and final total remain correct.

If you do not want customers to see different allocated prices beside identical products, you can display the original product price instead.

How to Display the Original Product Price Instead

To show each product’s regular price in the Summary panel:

  1. Open the bundle in the Mix & Match Bundle Editor.
  2. Select SummarySidebar in the preview area.
  3. Open General.
  4. Find the Products section.
  5. Open Product price.
  6. Select Show original price.
  7. Save your changes.

The complete setting path is:

SummarySidebar → General → Products → Product price → Show original price

After selecting Show original price:

  • Each selected product displays its regular product price.
  • Customers no longer see the €0.01 difference between allocated discounted prices.
  • The bundle discount remains visible in the Pricing summary.
  • The final discounted total and checkout price remain unchanged.

This setting changes how product prices are displayed in the Summary panel. It does not change the bundle’s discount calculation or checkout total.

Product Price Display Options

Under Product price, you can choose from three display options:

  • Show discounted bundle price: Displays the discounted price allocated to each product. Identical units may occasionally show prices that differ by €0.01 and may appear on separate lines because of rounding.
  • Show original price: Displays each product’s original price while keeping the bundle discount and discounted total in the Pricing summary.
  • Show compare-at price: Displays the product’s compare-at price when one is available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the same product sometimes appear twice after I click the “+” button?

When the bundle discount is distributed across the selected items, identical units may receive allocated discounted prices that differ by €0.01 because of rounding.

Units with different allocated prices cannot be combined into one product line. Therefore, the same product may appear on separate lines, with each line showing a quantity of 1.

The customer has not added two different products, and the final bundle total remains correct.

Why does the quantity sometimes increase to 2, while the same product sometimes appears on a second line?

If identical units receive the same allocated discounted price, they can be combined into one line with a higher quantity.

If their allocated prices differ because of rounding, they may be displayed on separate lines.

This behavior can occur even when the customer only uses the + button.

Is the bundle discount calculated incorrectly?

No. A small difference such as €0.01 is normally caused by distributing the total bundle discount across multiple products and rounding each allocated price to two decimal places.

The final bundle discount and total remain correct.

Why does one item show €7.07 while an identical item shows €7.08?

The total bundle discount cannot always be divided evenly across every item while keeping each price to two decimal places.

The system may adjust one or more allocated item prices by €0.01 to ensure that the final total is accurate.

Can I prevent identical products from showing different allocated prices?

You can display the original product price instead of the allocated discounted price.

Go to:

SummarySidebar → General → Products → Product price → Show original price

This removes the visible €0.01 difference between allocated item prices. The bundle discount and discounted total remain visible in the Pricing summary.

Can I show the original product prices and display the discount only in the total?

Yes. Select Show original price under the Product price setting.

Each product will display its regular price, while the bundle discount and final discounted total remain visible in the Pricing summary.

Will selecting “Show original price” change the actual bundle discount?

No. It only changes the price displayed beside each product in the Summary panel.

It does not change the bundle discount, final total, or checkout price.
