Overview
Email subscription status includes Subscribed, Non-subscribed, Unsubscribed, and each contact's email subscription status must be one of them. This article explains these three status.
Subscribed
If the email subscription status is Subscribed, as shown below.
Subscribed means that the consumer has subscribed and you can send marketing emails to the consumer. But be careful with how often the emails are sent, as consumers can unsubscribe at any time.
We recommend that you only send emails to subscribed consumers to minimize your emails being marked as spam.
The following ways can make the consumer's email subscription status subscribed.
Create a Signup Form activity, and consumers enter email address to agree to subscribe.
When you import contacts, confirm that consumers have given explicit consent to receive marketing emails.
When consumers place an order, they agree to receive marketing emails.
You filter out the specified consumers and manually change the email subscription status to subscribed.
Non-subscribed
If the email subscription status is Non-subscribed, as shown below.
Non-subscribed means that the consumer has not explicitly agreed to subscribe, nor has it explicitly declined to subscribe. You can send marketing emails to these consumers, but we recommend that you use caution when sending emails as they are likely to be marked as spam.
The following ways can make the consumer's email subscription status Non-subscribed.
When you import contacts, do not check "Consumers agree to receive marketing emails".
When consumers place an order, they do not agree to receive marketing emails.
Unsubscribed
If the email subscription status is Unsubscribed, as shown below.
